Too often I find myself spiraling into an inconsolable negative loop. The unapologetically honest tag line also comes with strong cynicism! Does that sound like you too? Here’s to changing that mindset, if just for reflection as part of Susie Lindau’s Blessed Project!* Now I must warn you, this post is not a review, but rather a (purely positive) glimpse into my personal life. (I usually reserve that kind of sappy stuff for the Monthly Newsletter.)
“More smiling, less worrying. More compassion, less judgment. More blessed, less stressed. More love, less hate.”
― Roy T. Bennett,
I need to first and foremost express my utmost gratitude and appreciation for several extremely precious people in my life before delving into the actual calendar year! My husband (Hanna’s Other Half / Only “Guest Author” thus far) supports me more than I ever dreamed was possible. Whether he’s impressing me with his newest recipes or listening to me vent about a terrible day, he’s truly my world. Much of his unconditional selflessness and generosity stems from the in-laws. From the moment I nervously met them, they have warmly welcomed me into their family and included me in all of their celebrations! Now my own parents, never the ones for the limelight. We have such a unique relationship, which I can only attempt to capture in writing. They are a shining example of how love can transcend words, hugs, presents and presence. (Did I just list out 4 of the 5 love languages…?) Their determination to provide me practical tactical support, (even unsolicited) has seriously saved me countless times from life’s pitfalls. My older cousins, although I didn’t know of your existence until my late teens, you both are two of kindest souls.
Clinging to the remainder of Fall 🍁🍂 😛 Does this look familiar? My hubby recreated the fall flavors pork tenderloin recipe from @cambridgeculinary with chicken! We were missing a few ingredients (no cinnamon sticks anywhere!) but it still turned out super tasty. Do you love a recipe so much you adapt it for other proteins/veggies? We’ve done fish piccata too 😁. P.S. Yes that is a Game of Thrones cup filled with apple cider 🍏🍏🍏🍏🍏
My dearest friends, our friendships were certainly tested through the year with some of my craziest moments to date. Even amidst all the tears (think interminable ugly crying), you made time for me with my frantic crisis calls! I am so fortunate to have a group albeit a small one, where I can proudly show off all of my unrestrained personality quirks. Readers and fellow bloggers I’ve befriend, ah yes of course I have not forgotten about you too! You’ve shown me there’s an entire community of amazing people in the blogosphere. I love reading your comments and posts more than you know. I only wish I had more hours in the day!
95% of everything positive that happened this year in 2017, would not have been possible without you! (Especially surviving the biggest drama, hint: It starts with a W!) Enough of the sappy love letters; let’s get on with the actual seasonal breakdown to quite literally count my blessings.
WINTER (January, February, March)
On a snowy February evening I decided to FINALLY pursue a long time passion of mine writing with the creation of this blog! I also discovered the charming world of Fancy Afternoon Tea, which later was the inspiration for my fantastic bridal shower completely taken aback by the generosity! (Semi-unrelated: I bulk ordered my new favorite black tea called Paris from Harney & Sons.)
SPRING (April, May, June)
Wedding – after all of the aforementioned stress we survived! I even surprised myself, despite being terribly sick (most likely due to late work nights to meet demanding deadlines) pulling off the first dance.
• First Dance 👣to @jonmclaughlin • Thank you so much @maya_says for taking this video for us on my phone! 💕 Yes that was the same guy we saw live a few weeks ago too bad we didn't get a chance to hear that song live though. I have no idea how to change the IG video trim settings from the beginning 😥. @dbballroomstudios #HannaWedsDana
Honeymoon in Italy – a great deal thanks to everyone’s generosity, my husband and I took our dream vacation and first international trip together: 2 weeks in Italy! We even experienced every add-on excursion to boot! As the smallest gesture of our gratitude, I wrote an in-depth summary of every single location we visited on our trip for anyone curious of how they contributed to our “Honeymoon fund” alternative registry.
Something in the universe lined up for us to magically move (it was really our amazing parents helping us) out of our shared apartment with roommates to our own place immediately after we returned from our honeymoon! As one of our friends so aptly phrased it “finding an apartment [in the Boston area] with central AC is like finding a unicorn!”. Seriously we only use it for about 1.5 months. I’m finally reconciling that the first promising property we viewed is no longer “the one that got away”. Oh also I purchased my own domain name as a birthday treat to myself.
Aside from the best time of year in New England, I also landed my first blog perk to write about my very first Renaissance Faire!
Swipe ⬅️ Colorful Decorations for my first #RenaissanceFestival 🚩🃏 King Richard's Faire Guide & Review 👩🏻💻Blog Post! Went on 9/10 with friends and we spent almost the whole day there. You might have seen the disorganized IG story 📱. Our trip was not complete without sipping some mead, enjoying the shows and trying some of the food. Thanks to @dennehypr for hooking me up with some tickets since I missed going last year later in the season! There are still tons of dates in September and October if you want to go on weekend or on holiday. 🕯🎠🏹🍷🍺🤹🏻♂️ #KRFaire #KingRichardsFaire #CarverMA
We can’t forget my favorite holiday Thanksgiving! I mentioned this already in the Newsletter, but we almost had the responsibility of hosting. However, we are so grateful too that our cousins did instead since we were completely unprepared.
Overall 2017 has been a remarkably positive year and I’m hoping to carry over some of those good vibes into the New Year! I left out several big moments since there were too many to count, however if you want to follow in more real-time you can join the Newsletter and/or follow along on the social media at the bottom.
How was your 2017?! Any particularly positive moments you want to share?
*Please don’t hesitate to join me, if you feel so inspired! I’d love to read and learn more about you too.
